Taking Pioneering LIDT Research and Advanced Optical Solutions to Optifab 2025

Rochester NY from the river

Next week sees the MPO team head to Rochester, New York, to attend one of the most important conferences for high-energy laser physics – the Laser Damage Symposium. At Symposium, we’ll be presenting our pioneering new technique for Laser-Induced Damage Threshold (LIDT) measurement, specifically developed for the challenging picosecond laser regime. At the same time, we’ll be exhibiting at Optifab 2025.

A New Approach to Picosecond Laser Damage Measurement

We will kick things off at the Laser Damage Symposium, where our Managing Director, Dr Helmut Kessler, will present a potentially game-changing development. In a world-first, he will introduce our innovative new approach to LIDT measurement specifically for the challenging picosecond regime.

His presentation – ‘LIDT from the nano- to the femtosecond regime: a closer look at the relationship between LIDT, refractive index, and absorption’ – offers a new perspective on one of the most complex challenges in high-power laser systems.

At the core of this work is a new empirical model that provides a framework for moving from reactive testing to proactive, predictive design for optical components used in ps laser systems. This research provides a significant step forward in understanding and quantifying laser damage mechanisms for this pulse regime – something that has important commercial implications.

We encourage you to see this pioneering presentation on Monday, 20 October 2025, from 2:20 PM – 2:40 PM EDT in the Grand Lilac Ballroom.

Solving Complex Optical Challenges at Optifab

You’ll also find us at Optifab from 21 – 23 October, on Booth 103 where we’ll be keen to talk visitors about high-energy and pulsed laser applications and discuss your specific project challenges.

Our focus is on solving difficult engineering problems that demand exceptional performance. We will have a large optic on our stand to demonstrate the manufacturing precision and quality we achieve at scale, providing a clear example of our advanced fabrication capabilities.

We invite you to bring us your most demanding requirements. At MPO we specialise in developing solutions for:

  • Overcoming scale limitations with large planar and spherical optics up to 500mm.
  • Achieving high spectral precision through our custom-designed air or ring-spaced etalons.
  • Expertly managing light with bespoke polarisation optics, including waveplates, beamsplitters, and polarisers.
  • Ensuring durability and performance with robust laser line mirrors and lenses for a wide range of applications.
  • Meeting the extreme demands of the most intensive ultrafast systems with a comprehensive range of high-performance mirrors.

Connect With Us in Rochester

This is a significant week for the optics community, and we are excited to share our latest advancements.

We invite you to attend Dr Kessler’s presentation and meet us at Optifab on booth 103 to discuss how our expertise can advance your next project or even just to say hello!
