WHAT WE DO

HOW WE MANUFACTURE your opticS from enquiry to despatch

In this section of the website we explain what we do – the processes involved from taking an order through to delivery. We explain the initial processes, starting with enquiry, quotation, scheduling, through optical design, material selection, the different fabrication processes, metrology, quality control and shipping. In pages below this one we talk in more detail about the critical processes of:
  • Coating
  • Metrology
  • The manufacture of larger optics
  • Material Selection
  • Quality assurance
.
1. ENQUIRY, QUOTATION, SCHEDULING
We receive an enquiry from a customer

Sales team ascertain whether a standard product will meet customer’s needs or whether a custom solution would be more appropriate.

All our team are highly experienced and understand the relevant parameters and specifications. This gives us the ability to look your request and ask the right questions.

We will consider the complexity of the design and fabrication, the coating design and schedule before supplying a quote with estimated coating performance, costs and manufacturing time

We will respond to enquiries within 48 hours and usually the same day.

2. OPTICAL DESIGN
Custom or standard products?
Once we’ve received an order, if the component isn’t a standard optic or variant, we need to use our proprietary software to model both the optic and the coating.
3. MATERIALS
We select the material to be used dependent on the nature of the optic and the application it will be used for.

4. FABRICATION
Once we have worked with you to optimise your quotation and receive an order, we follow a process:

Shaping the raw material

Grinding, polishing, edging

Coating

Optical contacting (for etalons and cube polarisers)
5. METROLOGY
Throughout the process, extreme care is taking to consider sub-surface damage, surface roughness and the particular needs flatness and damage threshold) of your optics. We use leading metrology systems and techniques to ensure your optics meet the specifications and high standards our customers expect.

6. QUALITY CONTROL
At MPO meticulous attention to detail spans the entire fabrication process. We employ cutting-edge measurement tools and rigorous visual inspections, ensuring each optic meets stringent standards. Our commitment is evident in the detailed QA reports we provide to customers, encompassing material certification, performance analysis, defect mapping and more.
7. SHIPPING
The greatest of care is taken to package optics for despatch before these are sent with accompanying QA reports.
